The Wood:
A very hard and heavy timber with attractive visible veins of varying colours, from pink to reddish brown or purple. Resistant to outdoor conditions and very versatile. Medium stability. Odor indistinct or absent. Density 700kg/m3.
The Tree:
Height of 30-40 feet (9-12m). semi-evergreen with odd-pinnate leaves and golden yellow flowers. It has a rather slender bole, is high branching, with about 40 to 60% of the tree being cleared trunk. Its fine leaflets give it a graceful look, and its umbrella-like shape makes it a useful shade tree. At flowering, the tree is completely covered with bright, yellow, upright panicles.
Colour:
Heartwood varies from reddish-brown to purple or pink, without streaks. The sapwood colour is distinct from the heartwood colour.
